This antibody recognizes tau proteins of molecular weight 45-68 kDa. Tau proteins stabilize microtubules by promote the interaction and assembly of tubulin monomers into microtubules. The TAU-5 monoclonal antibody identifies and binds to the phosphorylated as well as non-phosphorylated forms of tau. Tau proteins belong to members of the microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs) that stabilize neuronal cell microtubules in cell processes, maintainence of cell polarity and molecular intracellular transport.
