Napsin A is an asparatic protease with a specific funtion in normal alveolar epithelim, it plays a prominent role in the enzymatic processing of surfactant precursors. Studies reported that Napsin A is expressed in secondary lysosymes of alveolar macrophages, lamellar bodies of type II pneumocutes, plasma cells within a subset of lymphocytes in normal lung, respiratory epithelium of terminal and respiratory bronchioles, as well as in epithellial cells of renal tubiles in normal kidney and is weakly expressed in normal spleen
