Myeloid specific antigen is a 183-kDa DNA binding protein expressed in early precursor myeloid cells. Myeloid specific antigens are also expressed in granulocytic sarcomas and myeloid leukemias, myeloid precursor cells of bone marrow, scattered cells in the peripheral cortex of the thymus, granulocytes, granulocytic sarcomas, acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), chronic myelogenous leukemias and myelomonocytic leukemias. Monoclonal antibodies BM-1 and BM-2 are useful in the identification of early precursor and mature forms of human myeloid cells, respectively.
