MUC 6 also designated Mucin 6 and gastric mucin, is a high molecular weight glycoprotein that plays a major role in epithelial cyto-protection of gastrointestinal tract from acid, proteases, pathogenic microorganisms, and mechanical trauma. It is expressed in various tissues such as the pyloric glands of the antrum, bronchial epithelium and in the M?ller ducts of the endocervix and urethral epithelium. Muc6 antibody is found to be useful for differentiating fetal, precancerous and cancerous colonic mucosa.
