This monoclonal antibody reacts with Fc region of 900kD pentameric human IgM heavy (mu) chain. It has no cross reactivity with IgA, IgG or with light chains. This antibody stains IgM containing plasma cells, but not surface IgM and immune complexes. It is useful for the evaluation of majority B cell lineage derived plasmacytomas, non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas and leukemias. The common underlying feature of these malignancies is the restricted expression of heavy and light chains to a single heavy and light chain type.
