Human Estrogen Receptor beta 1 (ERb1) is an isoform of estrogen receptor beta (ERb), and belongs to the superfamily of nuclear receptor transcription factors. The gene product has a DNA binding domain and
a ligand binding domain, and is localized in nucleus and cytoplasm. ERb is highly homologous to human estrogen receptor alpha (ERa) and displays 96% and 58% homology in the DNA and ligand binding domains, respectively. ERb is expressed in various normal and neoplastic cells. Its expression in neoplasm was first identified in breast cancer, and ERb-positive breast cancers have shown to have better survival with adjuvant tamoxifen treatment, independent of ERa expression.
