Anti-Cytokeratin 17
SKU: AM981GP Categories: , ,

Cytokeratin 17 is a type 1 keratin found in epidermal appendages and contains 432 amino acids. Cytokeratin 17 modulates the function of TNF-alpha in the specific context of hair cycling. This protein regulates protein synthesis and epithelial cell growth through binding to the adapter protein SFN and by stimulating Akt/mTOR pathway (By similarity) and is involved in tissue repair. Cytokeratin 17 also promotes cell proliferation and migration of cells therefore signaling its role in the expansion of tumor/cancerous cells (especially oral squamous cell carcinoma). In oral squamous cell carcinoma, KRT17 acts as a pathogenic keratin that facilitates tumor growth through the stimulation of multiple signaling pathways, highlighting the importance of KRT17 as a multifunctional promoter of tumorigenesis. Mutations in Cytokeratin 17 can result in hair loss and tumor growth in vivo. Furthermore, Cytokeratin 17 may also be useful in distinguishing carcinomas of the cervix from those of the colon and also from mesotheliomas. Through Immunohistochemistry staining, expression of Cytokeratin 17 is seen in the membrane and cytoplasm of squamous cell carcinomas.
