Claudin superfamily proteins are key functional and structural components of tight junctions. The Claudin superfamily consists of many structurally related proteins involved in paracellular transport in humans. Claudins are located in all tight junction that includes both epithelial and endothelial cells in tight junction bearing tissues. Claudin-5 is a member of the Claudin superfamily. Claudin-5 ?mutations are seen in patients with velocardiofacial syndrome. Claudin-5 been used as a marker for endothelial lesions. Claudin-5 expression in tumors, has been found associated with lung adenocarcinoma and squamous carcinoma(2). In serous ovarian adenocarcinoma increased Claudin-5 expression is associated with aggressive behaviour.
