CD133 also designated PROM1, Prominin-1 or AC133, is a 97 kDa stem cell antigen with 5 transmembrane domains. It is a pentaspan transmembrane glycoprotein expressed by immature hematopoietic stem cells but not mature blood cells. CD133 is expressed on primitive hematopoietic stem cells, progenitor stem cells, retinoblastoma, developing epithelium, hemangioblasts, neural stem cells and embryonic stem cells.
