CD105 protein (endoglin) is involved in cellular proliferation and hypoxia induction in angiogenic endothelial cells. It is a transforming growth factor (TGF) -beta1 and -beta3 receptor and modulates TGF-beta signaling by interacting with TGF-beta receptors I and/or II and hence driving tumor growth and metastasis. Endoglin (CD105) marker is better to identify proliferating endothelium involved in tumor angiogenesis than pan-endothelial markers such as CD31, CD34 , Factor VIII etc. It can be used as a marker for microvessel density measurement and also in tumor imaging
