Calretinin, also known as Calbindin 2, is a calcium-binding protein belonging to the troponin C superfamily and calbindin subfamily. It consists of 271 amino acids and has a molecular weight of 31.5 kD. They can be found in different subsets of neurons in many brain regions and are considered valuable markers of neuronal subpopulations for anatomical and developmental studies. Calretinin is approved as a highly sensitive and specific marker for mesothelial cells and one of the best positive markers for differentiating epithelial malignant mesotheliomas. This polyclonal antibody specifically recognizes Calretinin in tissue originating from human, monkey, rat and mouse. It does not cross-react with other known calcium-binding proteins as determined by Western Blot analysis and by its distribution in the brain as determined by immunohistochemistry
