The c-Myc (62 kDa) is an oncogenic transcription factor located on human chromosome 8q24. It is implicated in cycle progression, apoptosis, cellular transformation and angiogenesis. C-Myc specifically associates with a basic region helix-loophelix leucine zipper motif (bHLH-Zip) protein, designated Max and acts as a potent transcriptional activator by binding to DNA. Amplification of this oncogene have been associated with tumors of different origins such as colorectal, prostatic, head and
neck, thyroidal, pulmonary, gastric, gallbladder, hepatic, oral, ocular, nasopharyngeal, mammary, ovarian, endometrial, endocrine, as well as hematopoietic neoplasms.
